Reviews from listeners

Rico
This is probably Matt's finest work, featuring his unique 'Celtic prog rock' style that really resonates with me in particular. Music from the most gentle flutes and violins to really heavy, metal/rock guitar solos. All I can say is that Matt has his own distinct style which is a testament to his ability on a crowded music market.
If you haven't heard this new work, you must. And if you get the chance, help Matt bring this new album to life. Take the plunge and help him. It makes you feel good and a part of something much bigger. I have spent my whole life listening to all types of music in my professional job and I can honestly say Matt has that magic spark that keeps this CD on repeat play. Thank you Matt for letting us be a small part of your work.
5/5 Rico Gusman (retired) Creative Director
P.S. the sound quality of the CD and FLAC files are absolutely some of the best I have ever heard. If you are lucky to have a good Hifi, you're in for a treat!

Sally
I am loving Cairn and rather pleased to being in the right place to listen to it - within sight of the Cairngorms, Scotland! Some fabulous mellow tracks, some bluesy, and some awesome rock bits, all with a Scottish flavour running through it. It will truly appeal to any music lover!
If there is one album you buy this year, make it Cairn - you'll not be disappointed and you will become part of an amazing community that follow the hugely talented Matt Steady ❤️

Peter
Classic Matt - HIS guitar! Reminiscent of Flight of the Raven and Dragon's Refrain - emotive and pulling at the heart. Beautiful tracks with heart and meaning.
Matt is a musician of quality without doubt. I’d been waiting for more since Flight of the Raven, and I certainly was not Disappointed. I would still like more!
FAQ
- Do I still get my stuff if we don't hit the target? Yes.
- Why are you doing preorders? As an independent musician, it is really hard to pay to record an album and buy the merch before it is released. Preorders helps fix that problem by supplying the funds to do so before they are needed. Secondly it enables us all to get personally involved with a project and to make a difference. Creating a work of art is done by teamwork! YOU are part of my team :)
- Where does the money go? First and foremost, it goes towards creating the album. There are some absolutely wonderful musicians helping with this project, and I want to appropriately compensate them for the amazing work they've done. It goes towards equipment, training, travel (the Scottish expedition took some doing for a start!). It goes to pay for the merch that you've ordered. It goes towards my time; this has taken 18 months of my life to put together so far, and this helps me feed the family and other animals!
- Can I buy any of this swag at a later date? The full album CD and download will be available after release, along with the artwork, journals etc. However the letters (physical or digital) are designed for the crowdfunding. Following along with the expedition, receiving the letters and playing your part in working out the puzzles will be a unique experience. Get stuck in! There may be some packs left over, but I'm not planning on holding stock.
- But I want a < insert thing here > Well email me on mattsteady@mattsteady.com and tell me what you fancy! I may be able to help!
- Will this be available on Vinyl? If (when) we reach the 10k funding goal, I will commit to getting vinyl!
- Will this be available on Streaming Services? No, not at this point. Streaming is a convenient experience for the listener, but is, frankly, horrific for the artist (and in turn eventually the listener). Saying that, if you want to copy the album and pass it on to a friend as a gift, then you have my blessing. Not commercially, and don't take the mick, but I find a personal recommendation often leads to new listeners and they often come back to contribute at a later date.
- Will this be available on Cassette? No :o Unless of course some retro angel wants to fund it :) In which case, get in touch!
Meet the Crew!

Matt Steady (that's me!)
I'm an independent musician, living in Leicester (England) with my wife Abi and a small herd of children. We are adopters and fosterers, and generally have a house full (as well as 2 grown up children living away from home!).
After 20 years working in IT, I made the crazy decision to pack it all in and become a professional musician. This turned out to be an amazing journey, and one that meant that when two small girls needed a home, we were in the right place to adopt them, which we couldn't have done if I was still in my previous employment. This starting the ball rolling and it just got more crazy from there. Sometimes I wonder how on earth I find time to make the music!
On this, my 12th studio album, I play guitars, violin, bass, keys and piano, uilleann pipes, high and low whistles, and a few other bits and bobs I've forgotten about!
I'm totally independent. There is no record label involved here, no accountants, marketers, teams of songwriters or ghost musicians. This is as real as it gets.

Terl Bryant brings the THUNDER!
Drums and percussion.
You may know Terl as being one of the original members of the incredible Celtic prog rock band Iona. He's worked with the likes of John Paul Jones, Martin Barre (Jethro Tull) and many others.

Sally Minnear - female vocals
You may know Sally as the ethereal, angelic voice behind Dave Bainbridge's tours and albums, also featured prominently on Dave Brons' work. She was the featured vocalist role in Michael Flatleyʼs hugely successful dance spectacular ʻLord of the Danceʼ, and plays about a million instruments to boot. She also tours with Pendragon! We first met playing together live with the Dave Brons band.

Steve Fletcher - hammond
Steve plays hammond and keys on track #5 (track name withheld to protect the innocent!). Steve is a super friend who played with me at the marvellous Live at the 6 Degrees gig for Open Hands here in Leicester.

Robert Watson - hammond and synths
Robert plays hammond and synths on track #6. He is best known for playing in Daniel Amos, but has played in a huge number of bands and projects over the years. An absolute joy to have playing on this album!

Marty Dieckmeyer - bass
Marty plays bass on track #6. One of the most experienced bass players around, and a lovely gentleman to boot! Starting to rival me on the beard front though ... this could be war!

Dave Brons - production consultant
Dave needs no introduction - he's currently leading the 'Celtic shred' revival with his Lord of the Rings inspired albums. He's been involved with overseeing the production. He also plays one chord on the album - I'll leave it to you to guess which one! Many thanks Dave - you're an inspiration.

Nick Tsiatinis
Nick is the tireless (ish) photographer and videographer, who makes my work look far more professional that it would otherwise. Without him, I would have no videos, no photos, and would also be considerably slimmer :)

I am committed to delivering an exceptional experience with Cairn. My promises to you:
Quality Assurance: I guarantee that every aspect of this project, from the music to the merchandise, will meet the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship. If not, I'll have a serious talk with my instruments.
Transparent Communication: I will keep you informed every step of the way. Expect regular updates on the album's progress, production timelines.
Timely Delivery: While I strive to meet all my self-inflicted target dates, I promise to keep you fully informed if unforeseen circumstances arise. This is super important to me.
Personal Connection: Your support means the world to me. Should you have any questions or concerns, I will personally address them to ensure you feel valued and appreciated.
Thank you for joining me on this incredible journey. Together, we will make Cairn a reality, creating a piece of art that we can all be proud of. Let's rock this!
Whatever you pick, THANK YOU! I couldn't be making this album without you.
Any other questions? Contact me on mattsteady@mattsteady.com and I'll be happy to help you.
Only 100 physical packs - join before Sept 23!

Do you live in the States?
First of all - THANK YOU! It is an absolute privilege to send my music over the seas to you.
Lots of things are up in the air to do with tariffs, and Royal Mail's rather creaky systems that aren't sure if they support them or not.
THIS WILL WORK FOR YOU.
If you order the physical option (8 packages), I will send you the digital version each week and save the letters up. I will then parcel them all up with the CD and anything you might choose to buy at a later date and send it all as one big parcel at the end. The site will charge you 10% + 50p for the tarrifs, but will clearly display this to you. The postage cost is included. No hidden extras.

Do you live elsewhere overseas?
Europe? Australia? Anywhere really :)
Go for it!
I put all the correct numbers on the packaging and do the official customs documentation (electronic and physical).
Depending where you live, you may need to pay customs or VAT charges, but this is country dependent.
